‘Minute Papillon’, the latest single from ‘Open Source’, serves as an emblematic introduction to the album’s overarching themes. The title, a playful nod to the French expression meaning “wait a minute” or “slow down,” encapsulates the album’s reflection on the necessity of embracing the present moment. Chantre presents this track as a joyful celebration of letting go, likening it to a magical day spent in the countryside—a contrast to the deeper introspections of earlier tracks like “Open.”
‘Open Source’ began its journey in 2020, recorded between Berlin and Paris. The album reflects Chantre’s observations of a world in flux, grappling with the realities of our increasingly dark and confusing times. Chantre questions the transformation of the internet from a hub of free knowledge exchange to a commercialized, isolated space dominated by algorithms. Through the album’s nine tracks, Chantre embarks on an introspective journey, attempting to re-inject personal magic into a society that often feels nonsensical.

Starting his songwriting journey at 16, Chantre often performed with his sister on bass and violin. His passion for music deepened through exploring classical compositions and global sounds. Joining the band Fenster in 2013 was a turning point, igniting a decade of recording and touring. A pivotal solo performance in 2017 confirmed his path as an independent artist.
Since then, Chantre has performed over 100 shows across Europe and America, sharing stages with artists such as Chris Cohen and Alex G. His debut album remains a favorite, featured in popular TV series like Hulu’s ‘High Fidelity’ and HBO’s ‘High Maintenance’. With ‘OPEN SOURCE’ and the release of “Minute Papillon,” Chantre marks a new chapter in his artistic journey, showcasing his evolving sound and unwavering dedication to his craft.

The latest single is described by the artist as: “"Minute Papillon" is an expression used in French to say « wait a minute » or « slow down ». It’s related to the theme of the first track, which encourages taking a moment to appreciate the journey. This track captures the album's spirit of discovery, offering a joyful escape into a magical day in the countryside.” Whilst on the video, he adds: ““The video takes place in the French Alps, close to Annecy. It was made together by Noémie Chantre, Lucas Chantre and Pacôme Henry, and it was shot on super 16mm by Pacôme Henry.”
Chantre’s musical journey is as eclectic as his influences, beginning with his mother’s diverse record collection, which introduced him to icons like Prince, Mariah Carey, and Suzanne Vega. Over time, his exposure to radio and television expanded his tastes to include rap, R&B, and 90s house music. His influences range from the avant-garde sounds of Aphex Twin to the visual art of Philip Guston and Brâncuși, with a particular admiration for Mark Mothersbaugh of DEVO.
